The region covers an area of approximately 20 x 40 km, from the Tagus estuary to the northern border of the municipality of Mafra where Cabo da Roca (Cape Roca), the westernmost point of Europe's mainland lies.
At the centre, the majestic mountains of Sintra, classified by UNESCO as "World Heritage Cultural Landscape". The mountains cast a romantic shadow over the small town with the same name, nestling in its foothills to the north, and help to distinguish the different areas in terms of climate, landscape and culture.
It is precisely in this dialogue between the mountain and the sea that the greatest charm of the region lies.
